How to Park

Driving school, minus the real bumper.

Seventeen lessons, from a straight stop to a Tuesday in Paris, where nobody parks inside the lines. Your instructor sits in the passenger seat the whole way.

  6. Tuesday in Paris

In Paris the other cars park wherever they like. One is abandoned in the aisle with its hazards on, one takes up two bays, and a delivery van waits double parked across from your gap.

The car

It drives like a real automatic. Lift off the brake and it creeps. The steering takes a moment to wind on, and you stop before you change gear.

On phones and tablets

The bottom of the screen becomes a dashboard. You turn the steering wheel with your finger, pick P, R, N or D on the gear selector and press the brake and gas pedals. In reverse the backup camera shows on the centre screen. A button on the dashboard mutes the parking sensor beeps and keeps the bars. If you prefer the old thumb controls, choose classic in the settings.

The instructor

The driving instructor, looking smug

He is hard to impress and he never forgets. Hit the same car twice and you will hear about it. He has a name for every car in Paris, Tiny Tina included. His lines appear word by word and stay on screen until you have read them.
