Description
You start with a loaned tanker and a neighbour's oil to haul. Take it down caliche and farm-to-market roads, park it in the depot's hose bay, sell the load and keep fuel in the truck. Save up enough and you lease your first well. Then the job turns into a business, with a pump, a tank, a valve, buyer trucks, a crew and contracts.
Driving is the game. The tanker is heavy and slow to turn, a full load sloshes in the corners, rough roads spill oil, and if you run dry you call the tow truck. The oil business gives you reasons to drive: a buyer waiting at the siding, a hotshot run, rent due at midnight.
Tex Rogue is free. It has no ads, no in-app purchases and no accounts, and it doesn't need an internet connection. You can play it in English or Spanish.
History
Tex Rogue began as a small oil-lease experiment. You walked to a pump, opened a valve, filled a tank and sold to the buyer's truck. In playtests the best moments happened on the road between those jobs, so we rebuilt the game around driving.
The game now opens with you driving a tanker full of a neighbour's oil. The oil business starts once you lease your first well. Phones come first. We test the large touch controls on a mid-range Android phone, and the game also runs on desktop.
Features
- Drive a heavy truck. Steering wheel and pedals on the touch screen. A loaded tanker leans and sloshes, the fuel runs down, and if you run dry you call the tow truck.
- From hauler to oil company. Haul a neighbour's oil for a fee first. Then lease a well and run it yourself: pump, storage tank, valve and the buyer's truck.
- Land, leases and surveys. Lease or buy plots around the county, and pay for a survey that gives you the odds on what a plot will produce. This part isn't finished yet.
- West Texas back roads. Caliche roads, ranch gates and cattle guards, cattle you have to honk out of the way, dry washes, wet roads and now and then an icy highway.
- Two stations on the cab radio. Rustline Radio plays country and honky-tonk. Long Draw plays desert guitar and slow blues. Both stations are made up, and all the music is CC0.
- Three days, then a scorecard. Hire help, take the siding contract and pay the bank note. On day 3 the scorecard shows how your operation did.
- Made for phones. Big touch controls you can read at arm's length. Your saves stay on your device and the game plays offline. It runs on desktop too.
- Free, really. No ads, no in-app purchases, no account, no tracking. English and Spanish.
